Frequently Asked Questions

Do die cut boxes need tape to assemble?

No - and ideally, for low volume runs, you would want to avoid double sided tape because it add manual labour to the production cost, and then labour your end to assemble each item. We recommend where possible using self-interlock style dies, and if you do not have a die - just ask and we can produce one for you as part of the quote set up.

Can I reorder without paying for a new cutting die?

The good news is if you are getting a small box digitally die cut in low volume, there are no die making or tooling fees. For larger boxes or high volume runs, then a die will need to be manufactured, however, once it is produced, you will not need to pay again for repeat orders.

What is the difference between a die cut box and a regular mailing box?

A die cut box is produced from cardstock, whereas mailer boxes are produced from e-flute or b-flute, a type of corrugated cardboard.

Are custom die cut boxes suitable for food products?

This would depend on the food item, how it is contained, the conditions it will be sold and stored, and other factors - please emails us with your specifics and we can advise.

What is the maximum size you can print for low volume boxes?

If you are after a small to medium sized box with a qty under 500, the maximum print sheet size we work to is 660mm x 320mm. If you have a high volume of boxes, or a larger flat box die size than this, then we would produce the box in the traditional die making method on an offset run.

How do I choose the right box size for my product?

We recommend first simply measuring the item the box needs to hold - the overall W X D x H in mm. If you do not have a die for your box, then we can produce one as part of the quote, just let us know the size, weight, what it will hold and where it will be stored (i.e. wet/dry/freezer etc).

Custom die cut boxes do not have to be expensive or take forever to produce!

At Rogue Create and Print, we have invested in the latest digital die cutting technology. This production method allows our clients to print, cut, score and perforate small to medium sized boxes, in a fast and affordable timeframe.

While we will still be using traditional methods for longer runs of die cut items, for larger sizes and flute substrates; this new approach to die cutting is incredibly cost effective, with no need to spend hundreds of dollars on getting a new knife (or die) made for each unique new shape.

What are Custom Die Cut Boxes?

A custom die cut box is a flat sheet of stock printed and the die cut to exact product dimensions rather than standard stock sizes. There are two ways to produce these boxes.

  1. The first way, is the traditional method of manufacturing a sharp metal die, so that when pressed on the flat printed stock, the die will create precise cuts, scores, slots, and tabs in a single flat blank.
  2. The second way is using digital die cutting. This is a computer-controlled process, where the PDF die (with defined cut, score and perforate paths), is keyed into a program, that then guides a robotic arm with a laser along the programmed digital paths over the printed sheet.

Types of Custom Die Cut Boxes

The most common die cut box styles available for retail, gifting, educational, promotional and display use:

  • Self-locking boxes
  • Playing Card Boxes
  • Flash Card and other Card boxes
  • Tuck / insert die cut boxes
  • Window die cut boxes with a cut-out panel

If your box is for shipping, we recommend using mailer boxes as they are printed on corrugated cardboard.
