Can you print the card box as well as the card deck?
Yes, we can print your card deck and then sort and manually pack them into custom die cut card boxes, or, we supply everything flat and shrink packed by kind/set, ready for you to assemble.
What are Custom Die Cut Card Boxes and how are they made?
A custom die cut card box is a flat sheet printed and then die cut to exact product dimensions rather than standard stock sizes. There are two ways to produce these boxes.
- The first way, is the traditional method of manufacturing a sharp metal die, so that when pressed on the flat printed stock, the die will create precise cuts, scores, slots, and tabs in a single flat blank. We use this method for high volume orders.
- The second way is using digital die cutting. This is a computer-controlled process, where the PDF die (with defined cut, score and perforate paths), is keyed into a program, that then guides a robotic arm with a laser along the programmed digital paths over the printed sheet. We use this for low volume orders and where multiple artwork kinds are required. We also use this same method to custom die cut your cards if required.
How can I create my own playing cards?
You can use software such as Canva, or professional programs for graphic design - Adobe Creative Suite or Affinity. As with all artwork for print, ensure you are using high resolution images and each card is set up to the correct size, with 3mm bleed. How expensive are custom playing cards?
The cost for playing cards will depend on a range of factors including card size, stock, finish, total qty in your set/s and then total qty of sets. What Are Custom Printed Playing Cards?
Custom printed playing cards are decks produced with custom artwork on the faces, backs, or both sides of each card. Use cases include corporate gifts, card games, weddings, events, retail products, corporate cards, tarot, poker, bridge, and other game card formats.
Custom Playing Card Materials and Finishes
For low volume digitally printed card decks, we can print on a range of FSC Accredited stocks, available in thicker gsms from 300 - 400gsm. Choose from Gloss, Silk (Satin), Recycled, Synthetic or Matt (or we can order in specialty stocks depending on requirements). We can round corner or finish to a custom die cut shape in lower volumes. We can also celloglaze each card for added playability and durability.
Card dimensions and deck composition affect gameplay, packaging, and print costs, so choosing the right stocks and finishes at quote stage is important. A few considerations:
- 350gsm cardstock is the standard weight for most professionally printed playing card decks.
- 100% plastic cards (synthetic) offer superior durability, ideal for high-use environments.
- Celloglazing each card improves grip and reduces sticking, and increases durability. Gloss cello enhances colour vibrancy; matt cello reduces glare and fingerprints.
- Rounded corners prevents the card corners being damaged with use.
Custom Playing Card Sizes
Common sizes are the following however we can produce these to almost any size you need:
- Poker size (63x88mm) is the most common format for smaller scale promotional decks.
- Bridge size (57x89mm) is narrower and preferred for trick-taking and hand-held games.
- Tarot cards (70x120mm) suit oracle, affirmation, flash and similar cards.
- A standard deck includes 54 cards; game card orders can be configured in custom quantities.
